Curtis at All Hallows kicks off its 5th anniversary season on Saturday, September 19th at 7 PM when we welcome organist Ted Babbitt.
Organist Ted Babbitt is an emerging concert artist whose performances have taken him throughout the eastern United States, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. Performance highlights include The Next Chapter, a nine-city concert tour celebrating his graduation from Mercer University. Additional solo recital appearances include Christ Church, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Grace Church, New York, New York; Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, Atlanta, Georgia; St. Johns’ Episcopal Church, West Hartford, Connecticut; and Wesley United Methodist Church, Worcester Massachusetts.
As a collaborative artist, Ted’s performance partners range from solo artists and chamber groups to symphonic bands and choirs. In May 2025, he toured the UK and Ireland as soloist with the Mercer University Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Brittan Braddock performing the Concertino for Organ and Wind Band by Thomas Trachsel. Performances included St. James’s Church, Piccadilly, London, UK; The Hallé at St. Paul’s, Manchester, UK; and The Lark Concert Hall, Balbriggan, Ireland. In 2023, Ted toured Connecticut with composer and soprano Sarah Marze in the Fresh Voices of Summer! recital tour performing on both organ and piano.
Ted placed third in the 2024 National Undergraduate Organ Competition held in Ottumwa, Iowa. In 2022, he received first prize in the L. Cameron Johnson Organ Competition in Connecticut and placed second in the Young Organists Competition in Columbia, South Carolina, also winning prizes for the best Bach performance and best hymn performance at that event.
A graduate student at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, Ted studies organ with Alan Morrison. He graduated from the Townsend School of Music at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia in May 2026, earning a Bachelor of Music Education degree. At Mercer, Ted studied organ with Dr. Jack Mitchener. He was a recipient of the Jo Phelps Fabian Distinguished Music Scholarship, the highest scholarship awarded to an undergraduate student by Townsend. Prior to his undergraduate studies, Ted studied with organist Scott Lamlein. He has performed in masterclasses for notable performers including Paul Jacobs, Isabelle Demers, Stephen Darlington, David Higgs, Nathan Laube, Christopher Houlihan, Christa Rakich, Jonathan Moyer, Ray Nagem, Felix Hell, Stephen Tharpe, and Jeffrey Brillhart.
Ted currently serves as the Michael Stairs Memorial Organ Scholar at Church of The Redeemer, Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. He previously served as Music Director-Organist at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, in Warner Robins, Georgia.
Ted Babbitt is the recipient of the Stephanie Yen-Mun Liem Azar Fellowship and is further supported by an anonymous donation to the Curtis Institute of Music’s organ scholar program. He is a student of Alan Morrison.
